Welcome Helen Hollick 🙂
I am pleased, delighted, excited (add your own additional words) to shout out that my new non-fiction hardback book PIRATES in TRUTH and TALE has set sail today in UK waters (well OK UK Amazon) and will be arriving in US and elsewhere harbours very soon ( order your copy now )
When I was commissioned to write this book by Amberley Publishing I decided to write something a bit different from the other books about pirates. Yes, I have chapters about the usual scallywags – Blackbeard, Charles Vane, Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, Mary Read et al, but I also mention the fictional old salts – Errol Flynn, Captain Hook, Pugwash and of course, ‘That Sparrer Feller’.
By blending excerpts from my own Sea Witch Voyages, along with some other novels by Anna Belfrage and James L Nelson, I link fact to fiction (hopefully skillfully!) There’s a chapter on Sea Shanties (provided by John F Millar of Williamsburg – and a section on Williamsburg itself (Blackbeard’s crew were hanged there.) Port Royal, Nassau, rum; the slave trade – Henry Morgan; why are we so fascinated by pirates, what they wore, what they ate, what they did in their spare time… and lots lots more! Written in a ‘chatty’ style, similar to my informal blog posts, I hope the book becomes popular and does well. Fingers crossed – or should that be cutlasses crossed?
Order here from an AMAZON harbour near you or your local bookstore.
